Greetings Humans,

I heard my servants started a perfectly appropriate group on a social media site called Meetup. Why isn’t everyone in a cat lover’s group? I suppose that some cat lovers can be excused from joining because they just want to stay home with their cat(s). Even to those well-meaning people I would like to suggest, with the greatest possible kindness, that they are misguided. Unfortunately, some servants do not know everything their cat wants. Gathering in groups helps many humans share ideas, provide support and encouragement and have some fun. Don’t worry. Your cat masters won’t mind you spending time away for such a worthy cause. Besides, sometimes we like to have our alone time too.

So far, my servants have organized a meeting in the Preservatorium café, a movie night watching “A Street Cat Named Bob” and a cat cuddling adventure at the Cats Protection League shelter in Kingston.

Surprisingly, half of the founding members who came to the Preservatorium Café for the first event on March 3, 2017 had no cat in their home to give their lives meaning. They needed to go to a place where they could all enjoy petting and playing with cats. So, that’s why Ken and Richelle organized an event at the Cats Protection League  April 4th. They could only invite ten people; the CPL is small and we cats don’t like to be crowded. Within a day, the event was overbooked and Richelle had to figure out how to stop people from signing up. I understand there were quite a few disappointed humans who were left on a waiting list. Well, they can be confident that my humans will plan another event in which the privilege of petting one of us cats can be enjoyed.

Even though it was rainy, ten people came to the CPL shelter and played and cuddled with cats to their hearts’ content. Iona Anderson was a gracious host who did not get flustered when people came early and stayed late. She even brought them food and drink to enjoy as she explained CPL and, more importantly, the cats in its care. Then she let them do what they were meant to do and each approached the cats respectfully asking to play or pet per the cat’s wishes. Some of the cats were just learning to trust humans and the members got to see them start to really enjoy petting. Others were full of fun and energy and it was good to see them happily tired out. Of course, the humans took photos. Who can resist photographing us?

Ken and Richelle are excited that the group already has 50 members. Poor, humble servants! If it were just for themselves, I would say, ‘Well done.’ But this is for us cats. There should be hundreds already! As I am in Japan and they are in New Zealand, I cannot encourage them properly. So, I am relying on you to do it for me. Join the group! Tell your friends! Bombard Ken and Richelle with ideas for events so that my silly servants will be able to truly make me proud. Even if you do not have a cat master of your own at the moment, (I shudder at the thought of you poor, lost, purposeless humans…) you may still join the Cat Lovers’ Meetup group. It may be the chance you need to have a cat in your life.
