Greetings Humans.

My health has been good enough. Thank you for your concern. The picture is of Brett, not me. He is better looking now. I may be scrawny but I have been able to overhear conversations between Ken and Hiroaki. Many things have been happening with Ken and Richelle. I thought I would share some of them with you in case you want to know.

They are very happy since it looks like they have found a place for the café. They told Hiroaki it is in Petone on Jackson St, just as they wanted. (I think they mentioned something about a fountain nearby so you humans should be able to find it.) I will let you know when I hear the address. They still have to come to a full agreement with the landlord, get Council approval, permits, licenses and many other things. But, if all goes well, they can open in the spring.

Brett, their foster, is still hoping for a forever family. Even though he had an interview Friday with a prospective servant, a match was not made. He is not too downcast. He likes life with Ken and Richelle, although Tonraq’s continued fear of him is annoying. I wish I were there to make peace between these silly boys. I did it many times for Mao while he was still with us, and I could do it again.

Meanwhile, they are still hosting events for their Cat Lovers’ Meetup group. Last Saturday, they had a highly productive one making cat toys. Brett was the toy tester and found the up-cycled materials highly entertaining. DIY toys are just as good as the store-bought ones and probably help preserve a cleaner environment since less trash goes to landfills or the sea. This Friday, there is another event making imitation cats by folding paper. It’s called origami and it originated in Japan. I suppose it is possible to make other things besides cats, but, why would you? There are a few spaces still available, so go to their Meetup page and RSVP if you would like to join. There is also

Dusty at the vet

a quiz night on the 23^rd of July at the Co-Op Kitchen in Whitby. All of these events are to raise money for some kittens at Outpawed, Poppet, Possum and Dusty who have had really big veterinary bills. I know what it is like to need vet’s care and assure you it is worth every penny.

This Saturday is the first Petone Winter Market. It will be inside the Baptist church on Buick St so the weather won’t matter. Ken and Richelle will have a stall showing their goods imported from Japan and also those with their cool logo. Many people don’t know that two cats sitting back to back is a very peaceful situation. It means trust and mutual protection so that’s what Neko Ngeru means for Japan and New Zealand. The market will be open from 10:30 to 3:00. Please come and say “Hi” to Ken and Richelle, check out the creative work by the artists in the other stalls, meet Outpawed founders Vikki and Hamish, and see the neighbourhood where Neko Ngeru Cat Adoption Café will be opening soon if all goes well.
