Student Cats

These cats are learning how to behave around humans and other cats!

Pepper

Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Colour: Gery (part British Short Hair)
DOB: 15/02/2014
Gender: Female
Personality:
Size: 5.0kg

My Story:

Hello, my name is Pepper. I have had an adventurous life so far, but I have always had good humans to care for me. When I was about two, I got hit by a car. It broke my jaw and took away my sight in one eye. But I recovered so well that I decided I needed another adventure. After a bit of wandering, the SPCA returned me to my people. Now I prefer to stay near home. I love my people, but they are leaving New Zealand and I don’t want to go. They got me a place in the café so I can find the best possible humans to take care of all my needs. I want a quiet place with no other cats, lots of sunshine and fresh air and plenty of human attention, not to mention good food.

Things I like:

being near people I like, a string toy

Basil

Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Colour: Tabby
DOB: January 2020
Gender: Male
Personality:
Size: 4.0kg

My Story:

I was rescued by a feeder in Naenae who previously rescued Tiny (Neko Ngeru graduate #69). At first, I was so scared, I bit and scratched a foster when she tried to move me out of a puddle of my own pee. Then they took me to a vet. That’s when they stopped calling me Daisy and started calling me Basil. I went to a different human’s place, but I still had my crate and my carrier, so I was good. Also, they put a hammock for me and covered the crate, so I felt more relaxed. They came to sit with me every day. Nothing bad happened, so I got curious about them. They played with me and that was fun. Petting felt nice. I think I am ready to meet more humans and get more petting from them.

Things I like:

chicken not tuna, my hammock chin scritches, and the catnip kicker.

Semyon (Semyon is one his training at our foster home)

Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Colour: White/Tabby
DOB: February 2020
Gender: Male
Personality:
Size

My Story:

Hello, my name is Semyon. Originally Patches but my sponsor gave me this name. I am fairly sensitive and new things scare me a lot. But my brother looks out for me. He helped me trust the nice lady who rescued us. I needed to learn to trust people on my own though. Now I do. I love chin scritches. When you hit just the right spot, it makes me roll around. My brother is really important to me and I hope we find a home together. We like other cats, but dogs and small children make me freak out. I am ready to give you a lot of love if you are patient with me.

Rhys (Rhysand)

Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Colour: Black
DOB: February 2020
Gender: Male
Personality:
Size: 4.0kg

My Story:

HI! I’m Rhys. Originally I was Blackie but my sponsor gave me this name from the drama character. I first met humans when I was three months old. My brother and I were hungry, and this nice lady let us eat with her other cats. After about a month, we began to trust her and enjoy petting. I am more curious than my brother and will go out to investigate things to make sure it is safe for him. Whatever makes him happy makes me happy too. I hope that we will be able to live together in our new home. We haven’t met dogs or small children yet, so it’s better if we don’t have to deal with them. We are shy at first but will love you a lot once we trust you.

Valentin (Valentin might be a long term resident)

Breed: Domestic Long Hair
Colour: Tabby
DOB: February. 2020
Gender: Male
Personality:
Size: 3.9kg

My Story:

My family applied to get me into the Neko Ngeru School of Catcraft and Kittenry and I am so happy I got in! First, I had to pass a friendliness interview in my home. I aced it by jumping onto Ken’s lap right away. Then, my health records were scrutinized but my vet gave me a good recommendation. Next, I had to live with strangers. I showed them how cuddly and playful I can be. One morning, I didn’t get any breakfast. I fell asleep at the vet and woke up feeling a bit different. But, no worries! I am now quite comfortable at the café learning from all the other cats. I look forward to playing with you!

Things I like: Feather toys, sparkleballs and high places

Toulouse (Toulouse is on his trial!)

Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Colour: Tabby
DOB: November. 2019
Gender: Male
Personality: playful, talkative, a bit timid
Size: 4.7kg

My Story:

They call me Toulouse. I was rescued from a possum trap by a nice person named Fern when I was about two months old out in the East Wairarapa. Trusting humans does not come naturally to me but I am learning to like you. Once I know you are okay, I like to chat and play with you and even get petted and cuddled a bit. I am strong and likely to grow very big. I need someone who can play with me a lot and be patient with me in introducing me to your home. By the way, I am terrified of the carrier and sometimes, if I am in it for a while, I lose control of my bowels. It’s embarrassing and I hope you will forgive me.

Things I like: toys that I can hunt and chase, a good place to hide, a patient person who understands me.

Nina (Nina left for her trial!)

Breed: Domestic Medium Hair
Colour: Black
DOB: October. 2019
Gender: Female
Personality: timid
Size: 4.0kg

My Story:

I, Nina, was born in the home of a nice lady in Woburn who keeps on feeding stray cats. I got a little chubby, so everyone thought I was pregnant. I wasn’t and the rich food I was getting to help my “pregnancy” made me even fatter! I wasn’t trying to fool anyone and now I am even trying to lose weight by not eating a full portion at meals. I am playful and love petting and brushing but don’t try to pick me up. I grew up around dogs and know how to handle myself around other cats but I would rather get your full attention. In the café I love to lie on the window beds, so please get at least one for me in my new home.

Things I like: tearing up boxes, laser pointer chasing, vertical scratchers, watching television and brushing

Anzu (Anzu is waiting for her trial!)

Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Colour: Tabby
DOB: Feb. 2020
Gender: Female
Personality: timid, smoochie, playful
Size: 3.0kg

My Story:

I, Anzu, was born in Petone along with my sister Eevee. Rescue Free Kittens contacted Richelle and Ken who came to pick us up. We don’t remember much about our early life, but our mama left us soon after we were born. Life in the café is so fun! I really like meeting new people who play with me and cuddle me. I can also get along with boy cats who are shy like Anzac.

Things I like: playing with any toy, lap cuddles when it is my choice of lap

Anzac (Anzac is waiting for his trial now!)

Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Colour: Black
DOB: 12/02/2020
Gender: Male
Personality: timid
Size: 3.6kg

My Story:

I, Anzac, was named after the day on which my sisters and I were rescued. The people of KittyCat Rehoming Wairarapa brought us in to be warm, dry and well fed.  I am the most cautious of us, but I have warmed up to my rescuers, and now Richelle, enough to enjoy being petted. I hang back until I am sure that the situation is safe. Call me timid if you want. I think I am just being smart. My collar is dark green and blue checks.

Things I like:  Hiding in the high box, food

Atawhai (Atawhai is waiting for her trial now!)

Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Colour: Black
DOB: 12/02/2020
Gender: Female
Personality: playful
Size: 3.0kg

My Story:

I, Atawhai, was kindly rescued on Anzac Day by the nice people of KittyCat Rehoming.  Although my sister brother and I started rough, I learned quickly to enjoy a good warm fire and a friendly lap for morning pats. But I want to decide which lap I sit in, thanks.  I am curious and even started exploring the café quicker than my sister. My collar is dark grey with dots and I have a white dot on my neck.

Things I like: Play fight with Aroha, feather toy

Aroha (Aroha is waiting for her trial!)

Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Colour: Black
DOB: 12/02/2020
Gender: Female
Personality: playful
Size: 3.2kg

My Story:

I, Aroha, was rescued by KittyCat Rehoming Wairarapa on Anzac Day from a colony of stray cats with my sister and brother. We were young so we’ve gotten used to humans a bit, but we are still cautious and may always be. I love cuddles and sweet things. I can be mischievous too so watch out for small items that I could take and hide away. My collar and bell are pink.

Things I like: Play fight with Atawhai, feather toy
